Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 brings together a futuristic campaign, co-op progression, competitive multiplayer, and a new open-ended mission called Endgame. Set in 2035, the game draws on ideas from both Black Ops 6 and Black Ops 2, while Treyarch aims to connect its modes through shared progression. Here is what the preview revealed about the story, gameplay, and features.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 campaign and story
The campaign follows David Mason, played by Milo Ventimiglia, as he investigates events in the futuristic city of Avalon. Raul Menendez has returned, while The Guild—a technology company led by CEO Emma Kagan, played by Kiernan Shipka—uses robotic security forces to respond to growing concerns.
Mason joins Mike Harper (Michael Rooker), Eric Samuels (John Eric Bentley), and Leilani Tupuola (Frankie Adams) on the mission. Their attempt to uncover what is happening in Avalon leads them into a trap and exposes them to a gas that intensifies fear. The resulting campaign moves through surreal settings as well as more familiar action-focused sequences.
Players can complete the campaign alone or with up to four friends. It also feeds into the game’s global progression system: campaign play earns XP, as do Multiplayer and Zombies, with additional rewards tied to individual modes. For players deciding where to begin, co-op offers a way to experience the story together while progressing their characters.

Endgame adds an open-ended campaign mission
After completing the campaign’s linear story, players unlock Endgame. This mission sends players into an open version of Avalon with an Operator of their choice. They can build and level up their kit, explore a tiered map, and take on increasingly difficult enemies.
Endgame puts earned progress at risk: if the squad is wiped out, the Operator loses progress. Escaping is necessary to keep what has been gained. That risk-and-reward structure makes survival and choosing when to leave important parts of a run. The mode’s large map and emphasis on mobility bring to mind Warzone, while its progression and replayability give the campaign a new kind of follow-up activity.

Movement and weapons in Black Ops 7
Treyarch has outlined several changes that apply across the game. Players can wall jump—not wall run—and perform a combat roll. They can also move while mounted. Tactical sprinting and aiming down sights while sliding, diving, or wall-jumping are tied to optional perks, so players can choose whether to use those abilities.
Weapon prestige returns with prestige-specific attachments and camos. Of the 30 weapons available at launch, 16 are new. Loadout elements can be overclocked during a match, and combat specialties return with three new options for players who want to combine perks.
Practical note: The movement options are not all automatic. If a particular action matters to your playstyle, check the relevant perk choices when setting up a loadout.

Multiplayer maps, Skirmish, and Zombies
Multiplayer includes returning Black Ops 2 maps Raid, Express, and Hijacked. The preview also showed Skirmish, a 20-versus-20 mode played on larger maps. Teams work toward designated objectives in four-player squads, offering a larger-scale option alongside more traditional multiplayer matches.
Zombies received only a brief preview. The mode appears to take inspiration from TranZit and includes a “Wonder vehicle,” but further details are expected in a later announcement. Players looking for a full breakdown of Zombies will need to wait for more information.
What the Black Ops 7 preview suggests
Treyarch’s approach connects the campaign, Endgame, Multiplayer, and Zombies through shared XP and progression. That structure could make it easier to move between modes while continuing to earn progress, although each mode also has its own rewards and playstyle. The preview points to a game that revisits Black Ops 2 influences while adding co-op, an open-ended campaign mission, and larger multiplayer battles.
For players weighing up what stands out, Endgame is the most distinct addition described so far: it combines exploration, escalating challenges, and the risk of losing Operator progress if a squad fails to escape. Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 also offers familiar foundations through returning maps, weapon prestige, and Zombies, with more details still to come.
