Cecil Joins The Roster, New Story Details, And An Original Character Arrives

Invincible VS is expanding its roster with Cecil Stedman, the director of the Global Defense Agency, and sharing new details about its story mode. The developers have also confirmed that the game will feature a completely original character created for the Invincible universe. Together, these reveals offer a clearer look at how the 3v3 fighter will combine tactical combat with a story designed to fit the world of the series.

Invincible VS Adds Cecil to the Roster

Unlike most of the announced fighters, Cecil has no superpowers. Instead, his fighting style relies on GDA technology, battlefield control, and support from summoned allies. A gameplay trailer showed him using gadgets, teleportation, and ReAnimen, giving him a distinct approach compared with characters who depend on direct physical attacks.

Narrative director Michael Rogers said the team wanted Cecil to be more than a voice communicating from a distance. The developers drew on story elements they wanted to bring into the game, including the White Room, ReAnimen, and teleportation, and found ways to connect those ideas with the combat design.

Executive producer Mike Willette described Cecil as a character who can control space and pressure opponents from a distance. His tools include GDA equipment such as a sonic mine, ReAnimen, the White Room, an orbital strike, and Flaxan weapons. Rather than relying on flight or a double-jump, he uses teleportation to move around the stage and set traps that opponents must avoid.

The announced roster also includes Invincible, Omni-Man, Atom Eve, Bulletproof, Thula, Rex Splode, and Battle Beast. Cecil’s reliance on long-range tools and battlefield setup gives players a different option within the team-based fighting format. When facing him, pay attention to placed hazards and look for openings to close the distance.

What to Expect from the Invincible VS Story Mode

Quarter Up has described the story mode as a standalone narrative set in the Invincible universe. Rogers said the goal is to make it feel like playing through an episode of the show, while still telling a story created specifically for the game. Writer Helen Leigh, who has worked on the series, and co-creator Robert Kirkman collaborated with the team.

Cecil’s place in the playable roster is connected to the story, according to Rogers, who noted that every character revealed so far has some role in the narrative. The developers have not disclosed the plot details, so Cecil’s exact purpose in the events remains under wraps.

The game’s story will reflect a particular period in the larger Invincible timeline, but the team has not confirmed which one. Rogers explained that the writers considered how Mark Grayson changes over time. The version of Mark shown so far balances the lighter qualities associated with a younger stage of his life with the greater seriousness he develops as he grows into his role as a superhero.

In the television series, Cecil is voiced by Walton Goggins. J.K. Simmons has been confirmed to reprise his role as Omni-Man in the game, while Quarter Up has not confirmed additional returning cast members. The game features character dialogue before, during, and after fights, and voice performances are expected to be part of the story experience as well.

A New Original Character Is Coming to Invincible VS

Quarter Up has also worked with Skybound Entertainment to create a new character who has not appeared elsewhere in the Invincible universe. The character will be part of both the game’s story and its playable game world, though the developers have not shared their name or other details yet.

Art director Dan Eder said the creators behind the franchise have been involved throughout development. The team consults them on existing characters, story choices, and the new addition to help keep the game true to the source material. At the same time, the developers aim to show aspects of familiar characters that have not been explored in other formats.

Release Date and Platforms

Invincible VS is scheduled to arrive in 2026 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. The release announcement does not provide a specific date. Players interested in Cecil’s approach can look out for further gameplay details, especially demonstrations that explain how his traps and ranged attacks work in a 3v3 match.

Conclusion

Invincible VS is shaping up to give Cecil a tactical role built around GDA technology, teleportation, and battlefield control. Its standalone story, an unannounced original character, and a roster drawn from the Invincible universe are among the key details revealed so far. More information about the plot, cast, and release date is still to come.
