Atari’s core business returns to profit, but consolidated group posts $5.5m net loss as Thunderful drags on results

The latest Atari financial results present two different pictures of the company’s performance. Revenue climbed to a decade high, and Atari’s business excluding Thunderful returned to modest profitability. However, the consolidated group still recorded an annual net loss, with Thunderful’s operating losses weighing on the overall figures.

Atari financial results: revenue and profit figures

For the full fiscal year ending March 31, 2026, revenue rose 66% year over year to $65 million (€56.0 million). The increase was driven largely by the acquisition of Swedish publisher Thunderful, alongside continued growth in Atari’s Games and Hardware lines.

Profitability depends on whether Thunderful is included. Excluding the publisher, Atari reported current operating income of $1.0 million (€0.9 million) and net income of $0.1 million (€0.1 million). Both figures improved year over year. For the consolidated group, which includes Thunderful, current operating loss was $7.7 million (€6.7 million) and net loss was $5.5 million (€4.8 million).

Thunderful alone recorded an operating loss of $8.8 million (€7.6 million). CEO Wade Rosen said Atari had reached operational profitability for the first time in several years. That description refers to the core Atari business, not the consolidated group. When comparing the company’s performance, check whether a figure includes Thunderful.

Key figures for the year

The following results cover the full year ending March 31, 2026:

  • Current operating income/(loss): -$7.7 million (-€6.7 million) with Thunderful; $1.0 million (€0.9 million) excluding Thunderful.
  • Net income/(loss): -$5.5 million (-€4.8 million) with Thunderful; $0.1 million (€0.1 million) excluding Thunderful.
  • Revenue: $65 million (€56.0 million), up 66% year over year.

These measures are not interchangeable. In particular, current operating income and net income describe different parts of the financial results, so investors should compare like-for-like figures and note whether the numbers are consolidated.

Games, hardware and acquisitions

Atari’s Games segment released 30 titles based on owned and licensed intellectual property during the year. Releases included Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection, System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster and a next-generation console version of RollerCoaster Tycoon Classic.

Games revenue increased 67.7% year over year to $53.2 million (€46.1 million). Excluding Thunderful, it rose 25% to $39.5 million (€34.3 million). Hardware revenue grew 83% to $8.4 million (€7.3 million). Atari also acquired the intellectual property rights to five Ubisoft titles, including Child of Eden and Grow Home.

During the year, Atari increased its stake in Thunderful to 97%. Thunderful was delisted from Nasdaq First North Premier Growth Market in February 2026. After the reporting period, Atari acquired emulation specialist Implicit Conversions in April 2026 and Crossy Road developer Hipster Whale for an initial $29.3 million. Hipster Whale generated $8.3 million in revenue and $4.6 million in EBITDA over the trailing 12 months to January 2026.

Accounting details and next steps

Atari’s results are prepared under IFRS, the international accounting standard used across the European Union, rather than US GAAP. The company reports both “current operating income” and a separate “operating income” line, so readers should check which measure is being cited.

Excluding Thunderful, the separate operating income figure rose to $4.5 million (€3.9 million), compared with a $4.5 million (€3.9 million) loss a year earlier. Atari said the change was mostly attributable to a one-off, non-cash accounting gain of $5.1 million (€4.4 million) connected to the Thunderful deal. The company cautioned that this gain does not indicate equivalent growth in the underlying business.

Atari completed its redomiciliation from France to Luxembourg on July 6, 2026, and refinanced $33.8 million (€29.3 million) in convertible bonds after principal shareholder Irata declined to convert them. The company says it plans to continue investing in its games pipeline and selectively consider potential acquisitions. Its full audited annual report remained subject to final procedures at the time of the results announcement.

What the Atari financial results show

The Atari financial results combine strong revenue growth with a clear difference between the core business and the consolidated group. Atari excluding Thunderful returned to small operating and net profits, while Thunderful’s operating loss contributed to a $5.5 million group net loss. For a balanced view, compare the consolidated figures with the results excluding Thunderful, and keep the separate IFRS operating income measures in mind.
