GDC organiser says it “hasn’t seen” cancellations from overseas visitors, attendance “tracking in line with expectations”

GDC attendance is reportedly progressing in line with organisers’ expectations, with no observed wave of cancellations among international visitors so far. The update comes as game industry professionals weigh the cost of attending and raise concerns about safety and the US political climate.

GDC attendance and international visitor concerns

Informa, the organiser of GDC, says it has not yet seen overseas attendees cancel their plans in significant numbers. Executive Director Mark DeLoura acknowledged that the team has heard concerns from industry members, but said those concerns had not yet appeared to affect ticket sales.

International participation is an important part of the event: DeLoura said overseas attendees typically make up around 30% of visitors. He noted that bringing people from different regions together supports a broader industry-wide conversation.

For anyone planning an international trip, it is useful to check visa requirements and processing timelines as early as possible. GDC says it released its content calendar earlier this year to give prospective visitors more time to plan, including time to work on visa arrangements.

Attendance expectations and the Festival Hall

Conference Director and Head of Content Ashley Corrigan described attendance as being in line with expectations, while noting that participation differs by region. Some areas are seeing stronger numbers and others lower ones, she said.

Organisers also pointed to international pavilions planned for the redesigned expo space, now called Festival Hall. The listed pavilions represent Brazil, Portugal, Costa Rica, Germany, Italy, Kyrgyzstan, Chile, Spain, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and Wales.

GDC also works with scholarship programs and organisations that support developers and game professionals internationally. Corrigan named the LATAM organisation and the International Game Developers Association (IGDA) among the groups involved.

Visitors comparing travel options may find it helpful to review the event schedule, pavilion information and any available scholarship details before making plans. These practical checks can help attendees assess whether the program and travel costs suit their needs.

Cost and safety remain part of the discussion

Concerns about the expense of attending GDC have been a recurring subject across the game industry. More recently, professionals have also discussed the risks they associate with US immigration enforcement and reports of two US citizens being killed in Minnesota. Some companies have reportedly considered sending fewer employees or not attending industry events.

Organisers’ current comments indicate that these concerns have not yet resulted in a broad decline in overseas plans for GDC. However, the reported attendance picture is not uniform across regions, and the update does not mean that every company or visitor has decided to attend.

What the GDC attendance update means

For now, organisers say GDC attendance is meeting expectations and that they have not seen a notable increase in cancellations from international visitors. The event’s international pavilions and earlier content-calendar release are intended to support global participation, while cost, travel planning and safety continue to influence individual decisions.
