The German games market grew by 4% in 2025, reaching €9.4 billion as sales of console hardware and online gaming services increased. The Nintendo Switch 2 launch contributed to hardware growth, while gaming PCs and accessories also recorded gains.
The figures come from the German Games Industry Association (Game), using data collected by YouGov and Sensor Tower. The results show a market shifting toward new devices, recurring services and continued spending on gaming equipment.

German games market growth led by hardware
Revenue from gaming hardware rose 12% to €3.4 billion. Console sales reached €1 billion, up 26% year on year. The Nintendo Switch 2 was among the new devices supporting this increase.
Gaming PC revenue climbed 7% to €651 million. The launch of the ROG Xbox Ally was cited as one factor behind the growth. For consumers comparing gaming systems, these figures show that hardware releases can influence market spending, although they do not indicate how much any individual device contributed.
Accessory sales moved in different directions
Revenue from gaming PC accessories increased 13% to €1.4 billion. This category includes graphics cards, input devices, monitors and VR headsets. By contrast, console accessory revenue fell 10% to €360 million.
These figures suggest that spending varied by product type. Anyone planning an upgrade can use the category-level trend as context, but should compare the cost and compatibility of specific accessories before purchasing.
Online gaming services exceeded €1 billion
Revenue from online gaming services rose 7% year on year and passed €1 billion for the first time. The segment generated €967 million in 2024, compared with €461 million in 2019. Over that six-year period, revenue more than doubled.
Game managing director Felix Falk said new devices and online services were helping return the market to growth. He also pointed to changing player habits: purchases of individual games are declining, while in-game and in-app purchases continue to grow, albeit slightly.
Game sales softened despite overall growth
Sales of games were reported at €5 billion, down 1%. The computer and video games submarket declined 13% to €807 million. The report suggests that established games with large communities and regular content updates, as well as services that frequently add new titles, may reduce the need for some players to buy new games as often.
For readers assessing the market, it is useful to distinguish between total industry revenue and spending on game sales alone: hardware and service growth can lift the overall figure even when game sales or a particular submarket declines. Overall, the German games market reached €9.4 billion in 2025, with hardware and online services providing the clearest areas of growth.
