What to expect from the Gamescom indie showcase

The 60–75-minute livestream is scheduled for Thursday evening during Gamescom. Its programme brings together world-exclusive trailer premieres, gameplay reveals and interviews with developers. The new game previews will be adapted for the broadcast, offering viewers an account of what to expect from selected titles in the showcase.

For viewers deciding which games to follow, previews can provide useful context before a trailer or gameplay segment. Pay attention to the footage and developer comments, and remember that details shown during a preview may not represent a final release build.

IGN’s role at Gamescom

IGN will continue producing the event’s official consumer broadcast and operating the glass-cube Gamescom studio on the show floor. The studio will broadcast in English and German throughout the event. IGN will also create tailored content for audiences in Japan and China through its international teams.

The production partnership for Gamescom studio began in 2019. Under the expanded agreement, IGN will also contribute to the Gamescom indie showcase, combining the livestream’s announcements and interviews with the preview format.

More visibility for independent games

IGN Entertainment President Yael Prough said the expanded partnership aims to bring more Gamescom content to audiences around the world and highlight creativity and talent in the indie community. Tim Endres, Gamescom Director at Koelnmesse, described the collaboration as an opportunity to bring a fresh approach to the show and present independent games to viewers.

Stefan Heikhaus, Head of Gamescom & Events at game, said the initiative is intended to increase awareness of the independent games showcased at the event and help audiences discover new titles.

Who can take part?

Editorial and sponsorship integrations are open to independent developers and publishers exhibiting in the entertainment area, indie area or event arena. Interested teams should check the official Gamescom channels for current application information and requirements. Before applying, confirm that the project meets the exhibitor criteria and allow time to prepare accurate game details, trailers and contact information.

Why the expanded partnership matters

The Gamescom indie showcase gives participating developers a broadcast platform for presenting their work, while viewers can explore games through a mix of trailers, gameplay and preview coverage. The addition of previews may help audiences compare titles and decide which developers or games they want to learn more about during the event.

With IGN continuing its live production, multilingual broadcasts and regional content, the expanded Gamescom indie showcase is set to connect independent games with audiences across multiple markets.
