Nintendo Switch 2 sales and financial results
For the nine months ending December 31, 2025, Nintendo reported net sales of ¥1.9 trillion ($12.3 billion), a 99.3% increase year-on-year. Profit measures also rose, although by different amounts:
- Operating profit: ¥300.4 billion ($1.9 billion), up 21.3% year-on-year
- Ordinary profit: ¥445.8 billion ($2.9 billion), up 39.4%
- Net profit: ¥358.8 billion ($2.3 billion), up 51.3%
These figures cover the first nine months of the financial year, not a single quarter. Comparing the same reporting period year-on-year provides a clearer view of how the results changed over time.
Switch 2 hardware sales set a quarterly high
Nintendo sold 7.01 million Switch 2 consoles in the three months ending December 31, 2025. That topped the 5.82 million units sold in the quarter of the console’s launch. Cumulative sales had reached 17.37 million units by the end of the reporting period.
The new system also exceeded the original Nintendo Switch’s sales over a comparable early period. In the first nine months of the company’s 2018 financial year, following the original console’s March 2017 launch, Nintendo had sold 14.86 million Switch units. Switch 2 launched in June and passed that figure within its first nine months.
The original Switch continued to contribute sales, with 3.25 million consoles sold in the nine months ending December 31, 2025. That was a 66% year-on-year decline. Its lifetime sales stood at 155.37 million units. Nintendo reported 129 million players between January and December 2025, slightly fewer than the 130 million recorded for 2024.
Software sales and leading Switch 2 games
Switch 2 software sales totaled 37.93 million units, while software for the original Switch reached 108.93 million, down 12.1% year-on-year. In the three months ending December 31, Switch 2 games sold 17.31 million units. Physical games accounted for 58.7% of all Nintendo game sales during the quarter.
Tip: Hardware and software totals refer to different products and reporting periods, so they should be compared only with figures covering the same timeframe.
- Mario Kart World: 14 million copies
- Donkey Kong Bananza: 4.25 million units
- Pokémon Legends Z-A for Switch 2: 3.89 million units
- Kirby Air Riders: 1.76 million units
What the results show

Nintendo Switch 2 sales reached 17.37 million units by December 31, 2025, while the original Switch continued to sell despite a year-on-year slowdown.
