Roblox insists plans to start charging creators for brand integrations “is not about revenue at all”

Roblox brand integrations are set to come under a new creator-fee policy that the company says is planned for 2027. Roblox describes the change as part of a wider effort to manage advertising and commercial content on the platform, rather than a move focused on generating revenue. The precise fee structure and final rules have not yet been announced.

What Roblox plans for brand integrations

Roblox intends to charge creators who include brand integrations in their experiences. Company representatives have discussed the upcoming change with stakeholders, though early reports about those discussions relied on anonymous sources whose claims could not be independently verified.

Stephanie Latham, Roblox’s vice president of global brand partnerships and advertising, said the policy is part of a broader package of changes. The company says it also plans to expand creators’ access to advertising formats and provide additional tools for working with brands.

Roblox has not published the fee amount, how it will be calculated, or the full requirements creators will need to follow. Until those details are available, creators should avoid assuming that every type of sponsorship or existing agreement will be treated in the same way.

Why Roblox says it is making the change

Latham said the aim is to respond to the growing presence of commercial activity on Roblox and to clarify the company’s responsibilities to users, creators, and brands. Roblox says it wants promotional content to be clearly identified and shown to appropriate audiences.

The company also says it plans to standardize how ads are measured and labeled. In its view, a common process could make brand partnerships easier to manage at scale, help creators set the value of their work, and allow Roblox to handle complex compliance requirements across markets.

Roblox currently takes a 30% share of revenue from in-app purchases. By contrast, creators have generally arranged separate licensing and advertising agreements with brands. The proposed policy would change how brand integrations are handled, although Roblox has not yet explained exactly how the new system will interact with independent deals.

Creator independence and advertising safeguards

Some creators may want to know whether the new process will limit their ability to work directly with advertisers. Roblox has said its approach is intended to improve safety and oversight, including proper disclosure of commercial content, moderation, audience suitability, and aggregated ad measurement.

Those safeguards may be important for users and brands, but the details will matter to creators planning campaigns. Before entering a new agreement, check its term, cancellation provisions, and whether it depends on rules that may change when the policy takes effect.

Timing and existing agreements

Roblox has indicated that the changes are not intended to take effect until 2027. The company has also said that deals already in progress through the end of the calendar year will not be affected. The final policy is still being developed, so creators should look for official guidance before making decisions based on assumptions about future fees.

Roblox has also announced two developer initiatives: Roblox Incubator and Roblox Jumpstart. The six-month Incubator program is designed to help experienced teams develop promising game concepts into polished, scalable projects. Participants are offered mentorship from Roblox subject-matter experts and support with building an audience.

What creators should watch for

  • Fee details: Watch for information on amounts, calculation methods, and which integrations are covered.
  • Disclosure rules: Review requirements for labeling sponsored or promotional content.
  • Existing contracts: Check whether current agreements extend beyond the dates Roblox has addressed.
  • Independent partnerships: Look for clarification on how direct creator-advertiser deals will work under the new process.

Roblox brand integrations: key takeaway

The planned Roblox brand integrations policy could bring more consistency to advertising disclosures, moderation, and measurement, while also introducing fees for creators. Roblox says the changes are intended to support users, creators, and brands, but the cost and operational rules remain unclear. Creators should monitor official announcements and review new contract terms carefully as the planned 2027 start approaches.
