A Good Reason To Call Up Your Wingman

Ace Combat 8 multiplayer is set to add more ways to fly with friends and compete online alongside the game’s single-player campaign. The announced features include large social lobbies, cooperative and competitive modes, aircraft progression, and special missions. Together, these options are designed to give players different ways to take part, whether they prefer teamwork against computer-controlled enemies or matches against other pilots.

Ace Combat 8 multiplayer modes and online lobbies

The game is planned to support online lobbies for up to 100 players. Pilots will be able to customize an avatar and move around the lobby, where they can meet other players before heading into a match. The developers have also described unlockable options tied to mission completion and hangar development.

For players deciding where to start, the lobby’s social features can provide a place to gather before choosing a mode. The game’s two main multiplayer options are Co-Op Assault, which focuses on PvE missions, and Co-Op Warfare, which puts teams into competitive battles.

Co-Op Assault: work together for a high score

Co-Op Assault sends two teams of four into missions where they compete to earn the highest score. Although the teams are score rivals, players within each group fly together, with human players filling the wingman role. This mode may suit pilots who enjoy coordinated objectives but would rather focus on computer-controlled opponents than direct player-versus-player combat.

Co-Op Warfare: team-based competition

In Co-Op Warfare, teams of four face off while allied land, air, and sea units take part in the battle. Players aim to build their score as the match develops. Higher scores raise the threat level and can increase the score multiplier, but they also make a player worth more points to opponents if shot down. That trade-off means a team’s lead may shift during a match, so staying aware of both objectives and risk is important.

Producer Manabu Shimomoto said the team wanted to offer both PvE and competitive play, recognizing that players have different preferences. Having both formats gives groups a choice between cooperating against missions and testing their skills against other pilots.

Aircraft roles, progression, and special sorties

Multiplayer aircraft options are planned to include Fighters, Attackers, Multirole aircraft, and Electronic Warfare aircraft. Each role offers a different way to contribute to a team. Players will be able to progress along tracks for their chosen aircraft, building them up in a way comparable to progression in the single-player campaign. Online-exclusive options and visual customization are also planned.

Two additional events may appear in the multiplayer lobby. Scramble pits teams of four against a powerful rival NPC squad. Emergency Sortie features special encounters with recognizable Ace Combat bosses and superweapons. These modes could offer a change of pace for groups looking for something beyond the main co-op and competitive formats.

Lobby activities and customization

The lobby is also set to include a jukebox featuring music from earlier games and an arcade with Namco classics. Pac-Man has been confirmed, while the full arcade selection has not been specified. A battle pass called Ace Pass is planned with free and premium options, alongside a supply shop for items presented with a crate-opening style. Details about specific items and costs were not provided in the announcement.

What to expect from Ace Combat 8 multiplayer

Ace Combat 8 multiplayer is planned to combine social spaces, aircraft development, co-op missions, and team competition. Players choosing a mode can consider whether they prefer PvE teamwork, score-based rivalry, or special encounters against formidable opponents. The announced mix gives pilots several ways to play together, while aircraft roles offer room to choose a preferred contribution to a team. Specific features, availability, and commercial details should be checked against the game’s latest official announcements as launch approaches.
