A Promising Dress Rehearsal

Infinity Nikki pairs fashion, exploration and a gentle fantasy adventure in a colorful open world. After several hours with a beta version, its mix of outfit collecting, light challenges and story moments offers more than a traditional dress-up game. Players who enjoy exploring at their own pace may find plenty to discover in the world of Miraland.

What to Expect from Infinity Nikki

Nikki and her companion Momo are preparing for a ball when they are transported to Miraland. There, Ena the Curator gives Nikki a mission: find and restore the Miracle Outfits, a set of magical dresses connected to a larger mystery. Nikki also discovers that she is a Stylist, someone able to find and create outfits wherever she goes.

Outfits are more than a way to change Nikki’s appearance. The three Ability Dresses available early in the beta each provide a distinct power. A floating outfit helps Nikki cross gaps and reach rooftops, and can also be used for a downward strike against enemies or fragile objects. A Purification dress lets her fire energy orbs to clear corrupted creatures called Esselings and certain collectibles. Another outfit allows Nikki to groom particular animals and gather materials.

Some core abilities, including floating and purification, are assigned to buttons. Other specialized outfits, such as those used for grooming or catching bugs, can be selected from a wheel. A practical tip for exploring is to keep track of which ability is equipped: different obstacles and activities call for different outfits.

Exploring Miraland and Finding Whimstars

The beta’s version of Miraland includes flower fields, rolling hills and the village of Florawish. Its bright scenery makes wandering between objectives an inviting part of the experience. Alongside quests, one of the main activities is finding Whimstars, special collectibles used to unlock options in a skill tree.

Some Whimstars are simply hidden in the environment. Momo can help by highlighting and marking distant ones, while others require completing a small task, such as defeating enemies or spotting a concealed star on an ornament. Special portals lead to compact platforming and puzzle rooms, offering another way to earn them.

When searching, look beyond the main path and examine rooftops, decorations and other details in the scenery. Some collectibles are designed around observation rather than combat, making a careful look around worthwhile.

Crafting Outfits and Progressing as a Stylist

Whimstars unlock outfit sketches and other options through the Heart of Infinity skill tree, but unlocking a sketch does not automatically create the outfit. Nikki must gather materials across Miraland, including fruit, flowers, thread and fur, then use them to craft individual pieces such as hairstyles, clothing, makeup and accessories. Sketches can be found during exploration or earned through quests and activities.

Finding and unlocking more sketches also raises Nikki’s Stylist level. Early in the adventure, she joins the Stylist Guild in Florawish and receives the Pear-Pal, a tablet-like device that tracks objectives. These goals include tasks such as defeating a set number of enemies or taking photos with the in-game camera. Completing them raises her rank and provides money and materials.

Players who like clear goals will find several forms of progression to follow, including story and side quests, Stylist Rank objectives and daily challenges. Checking the Pear-Pal regularly can help identify useful tasks while exploring.

Fashion, Story and a Relaxed Pace

New objectives often reward materials or outfit sketches, supporting the game’s central appeal: choosing Nikki’s look. Her appearance can be customized independently of the abilities associated with outfits. That means players can keep a preferred style while still using the clothing needed for a particular activity.

The main story adds narrative interest to the open-world activities. The beta features rendered cutscenes, comedic moments and unusual characters, including a dragon-like poet. Its playful tone is balanced by hints of a broader mystery. Books and notes found in the world may also offer more context about Miraland and its history.

Even smaller interactions follow the game’s lighthearted approach. For example, changing the day and night cycle involves a simple arcade-style minigame. The beta also included a multiplayer component that was not available to try, so its features could not be assessed in this preview.

Is Infinity Nikki Worth Watching?

Infinity Nikki stands out for combining outfit crafting with open-world exploration and activities that do not rely on constant combat. The challenges encountered in the beta were generally approachable, while collecting Whimstars and gathering materials gave exploration a steady sense of purpose. Players seeking demanding combat may want to temper expectations, but those drawn to cozy settings, customization and discovery may enjoy its pace.

At the time covered by this preview, Infinity Nikki was announced for PlayStation 5, PC, iOS and Android, with a closed PC beta available to selected registered players. Its cheerful presentation, layered outfit systems and unanswered story questions make Infinity Nikki a promising adventure for players who want a more relaxed kind of open-world journey.
