A Walk Well Wasted

Big Walk Is a Relaxed Co-op Adventure

Big Walk is a cooperative exploration game built around puzzles, conversation, and the pleasure of spending time together. Friends can wander across a sprawling island, discover interactive objects, and work through challenges at their own pace. Its long walks between activities are part of the experience, giving groups room to chat, joke, and enjoy the landscape rather than rushing from one objective to the next.

During a preview session, a group of four players spent around 90 minutes exploring the game. After a short introduction, the players were free to investigate the island and figure things out together. A gym-like tutorial area introduced basic actions such as sliding, lifting, and pointing before the group headed out into the wider world.

How Big Walk’s Puzzles Adapt to Your Group

Developer House House describes Big Walk as a “walker talker.” Up to 12 friends can join a session, with puzzles designed for groups of different sizes. The game has three player-count modes: two players, three players, and four or more, with a maximum of 12. The overall experience remains similar, but some challenges can change to suit the size of the group. For instance, an object that requires a coordinated effort to reach in a larger group might be easier to access with fewer players.

One early challenge involved a tall crane holding a gourd-like object. The group tried several improvised ways to reach it, then stacked their avatars to make a tower. The player at the top could press a button and release the object, triggering a burst of confetti. It was a simple moment, but it showed how observation, experimentation, and cooperation can turn a puzzle into a shared story.

House House says that coordinating more than four players can become difficult. Larger groups can also divide into smaller teams, tackle separate tasks, and reunite to share what they discovered. Some challenges encourage this kind of split-up-and-reconnect approach, while tools such as whiteboards and fireworks can help players communicate across long distances.

Communication Is Part of the Gameplay

Big Walk offers proximity voice chat, text chat, pointing, and gestures. In the preview, these options made it possible to communicate in different ways, whether players were discussing a plan or simply drawing attention to something in the environment. Some puzzles also limit communication, asking players to rely on gestures or other available methods instead of speaking freely.

Game developer Stuart Gillespie-Cook explained that restricting one form of communication can encourage players to use the others creatively. If you’re playing with friends, try mixing gestures, text, and voice rather than treating conversation as separate from the puzzle-solving. The way your group communicates is part of the fun.

Playing Big Walk With Friends

Big Walk is designed for people who already have a group to play with. At the time of the preview, House House and publisher Panic were planning a release for PC and PlayStation 5, with cross-play between those platforms. The developers said players would invite friends rather than use matchmaking to find strangers. They pictured the game as something a group might return to over multiple sessions, much like a regular tabletop gaming night.

That approach suits the game’s unhurried pace. Interactive details, such as music stations and tools, give players reasons to explore, while puzzles provide shared goals. Between those activities, groups can enjoy the quieter parts of the journey: talking about what to try next, making jokes, or simply walking through the world together.

Big Walk’s appeal is not limited to solving challenges. Its open stretches of travel create breathing room between tasks, giving players time to reconnect and decide what to do next. For groups looking for a cooperative game that values conversation as much as progress, Big Walk offers a welcoming mix of exploration, communication, and collaborative play.

Why Big Walk Could Be a Great Game for Groups

Big Walk combines adaptable puzzles with flexible communication and a world that encourages players to explore together. If you plan to play, gather a group of friends who enjoy experimenting and taking their time; the game’s social moments are as important as its puzzle solutions. Big Walk is built around the idea that the journey—and the conversations along the way—can be just as rewarding as reaching the next objective.
