Amazon Game Studios ends publishing agreement with Maverick Games

The Amazon Game Studios Maverick Games deal has ended, but development of Maverick’s unannounced driving game is continuing. The change means the studio can seek a new publishing partner for its debut title, an open-world, narrative-driven game planned for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

Amazon Game Studios and Maverick Games end publishing agreement

Amazon Game Studios said it ended its publishing agreement with Maverick Games as it focuses on projects that make use of Amazon’s strengths and scale. The company said the decision gives Maverick more flexibility to find a publisher whose priorities fit the game’s path to market.

The agreement was announced in May 2024, when Amazon signed Maverick’s first game. The title has not yet been announced by name, and no release date is provided in the available information. Its planned platforms are PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

For players, the key point is that the publishing arrangement has changed, not that development has been reported as cancelled. The studio says work is progressing as planned. Until a new publishing partner or further launch details are announced, a release date and other specifics remain unknown.

Development continues while Maverick speaks with partners

Maverick co-founder and chief operating officer Harinder Sangha said development continues to progress as strongly as planned despite the end of the agreement. Sangha also said the studio is in active discussions with potential partners that share its long-term ambitions for the intellectual property, with more information expected later in the year.

Those discussions could determine how the game is brought to market, but no new publisher has been confirmed. Readers following the project should look for official announcements before relying on reports about a partner, launch timing, or additional features.

Other changes at Amazon Games

The publishing news comes amid other changes to Amazon’s games portfolio. Earlier in the same week, Amazon shut down Glowmade’s online multiplayer dungeon crawler King of Meat. Its servers are scheduled to close on April 9, 2026.

New World: Aeternum, Amazon Games’ MMO, is also scheduled to go offline on January 31, 2027. Development paused in October of the previous year as part of wider redundancies that affected 14,000 people. These are separate projects and announcements; they do not change the stated development status of Maverick’s driving game.

Maverick Games’ background

Maverick Games was founded in 2023 by former Playground Games developers. The studio is led by head and creative director Mike Brown, who previously worked as creative director on the Forza Horizon series.

This background helps explain the team’s connection to driving games, while the new project is described as an open-world, narrative-driven experience. For now, the confirmed details are its genre, planned platforms, and continued development. The Amazon Game Studios Maverick Games deal has ended, and the studio is looking for a publishing partner aligned with its long-term plans.
