The King of Meat shutdown will end the online multiplayer dungeon crawler’s service after the game failed to attract the audience its publisher had hoped for. Amazon Game Studios announced that the servers were scheduled to go offline on April 9, 2026, and that purchases and sales would stop ahead of that date.
King of Meat shutdown: key dates and refunds
As of February 23, 2026, King of Meat had been removed from storefronts and in-game purchases had been disabled. Players could no longer buy the game through those stores or make additional purchases within it.
Amazon said customers who had purchased the game would receive a full refund through their platform provider. The refunds were due to be processed automatically between February 24 and April 9, 2026. Players should check the purchase account or platform used to buy the game for refund updates, as Amazon said the platform provider would handle the process.
The publisher explained that, despite Glowmade’s creative work on the title, King of Meat had not reached the audience anticipated. Amazon described the closure as a difficult decision and said it was ending its investment in the game. It also thanked players for their support, feedback, and contributions to the community, and acknowledged Glowmade’s work on the project.
What led to the game’s closure?
King of Meat launched in October 2025. About two months later, reports said the game had fallen significantly short of internal expectations, a shortfall that led to layoffs. The shutdown announcement therefore followed a brief period of availability for the multiplayer title.
For players, the delisting and disabled purchases marked the first practical changes: new buyers could no longer access the game through storefronts, while existing purchasers were directed to an automatic refund process. The announced server date also meant online play was expected to end on April 9, 2026. Because the game relied on online servers, players should not assume that multiplayer access will continue after a service closure.
Glowmade and Amazon’s publishing partnership
Glowmade was founded in 2015 by former Lionhead Studios developers. The Guildford-based studio partnered with Amazon in 2021 as Amazon expanded its third-party publishing activity. In 2024, Amazon Game Studios’ former EMEA publishing director Jon Rosenblatt described King of Meat as an opportunity to work with the studio and develop its project into something larger.
King of Meat was not the only Amazon online game facing a closure announcement. The company had also said that its MMO New World: Aeternum would shut down, with servers scheduled to go offline on January 31, 2027. Development had paused in October 2025, when Amazon said there would be no further updates. That decision was part of wider cuts to Amazon’s infrastructure that affected 14,000 jobs.

The King of Meat shutdown brings the game’s online service to an end after a short run, despite Glowmade’s development work and the community that formed around the title. For affected players, the most useful next step is to check the relevant platform account for refund information and keep in mind that the announced server date applies to online access.
