Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced made a strong debut in Newzoo’s reported July PC and console revenue rankings, placing second on PC and fourth on console. Its performance, alongside renewed interest in older Call of Duty releases, highlights how remakes, ports and other changes to established games can bring fresh commercial momentum.

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced ranks in the July charts
The first remake in the Assassin’s Creed franchise entered Newzoo’s PC revenue chart at No. 2 and its console chart at No. 4. It also ranked ninth in Newzoo’s year-to-date Top 20 new games by revenue.
Newzoo market analyst Mert Şahin said the result demonstrates the commercial potential that can remain in established titles. Remakes can retain elements familiar to longtime players while making older games more accessible to new audiences through meaningful updates.
For players comparing a remake with the original, it can be helpful to check which features have changed and whether the updates affect gameplay, presentation or accessibility. The rankings measure revenue, however, and do not indicate how individual players rate those changes.
Classic Call of Duty ports also attract revenue
Call of Duty: Black Ops and Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 were released on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 without advance promotion, a strategy often described as a shadow drop. Black Ops 2 reached No. 1 in the console revenue chart, while Black Ops placed sixth.
Şahin noted that these results show a different way to renew demand for back-catalogue games. A substantial remake can reposition a title for modern audiences, while a relatively straightforward port can make an older release available on newer hardware with fewer changes.
Palworld and GTA 5 show other sources of momentum
Palworld left early access and entered the PC revenue rankings at No. 5. Newzoo observed that the game is sold as a one-time purchase and has no microtransactions or paid downloadable content, meaning most of its revenue came from new players. Palworld 1.0 also appeared at No. 19 in the year-to-date Top 20 new games by revenue.
On console, Grand Theft Auto 5 moved up two places in monthly active users. Newzoo linked the increase to interest in GTA 6 following the opening of pre-orders, as well as the launch of The Kortz Centre Heist in GTA Online. Revenue rankings and monthly active users measure different things, so a change in one should not be treated as a direct measure of the other.

What the rankings suggest
Across PC and console, the results point to several ways publishers can renew interest in established games: release a substantial remake, bring an older title to newer platforms, or support a live game with timely updates and events. These approaches can appeal to different audiences, and the chart positions show revenue performance rather than player satisfaction or sales-unit totals.
Overall, Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced’s second-place PC debut and fourth-place console ranking make it one of the month’s notable releases. Readers should note that the accompanying PC chart is labeled June 2026, while the report describes the results as July rankings.
