Stone Kite is a new Los Angeles-based transmedia studio launched by Bungie co-founder Jason Jones and Destiny 2 narrative director Margaret Stohl. The company plans to develop stories with creators from different entertainment fields working together from the outset, rather than beginning with one format and adapting the result later.

Stone Kite launches with One Zero One
The studio’s first intellectual property is One Zero One, based on an original manuscript by Jones. The story follows a worldwide conflict between humanity and a rogue force of AI-powered robotic soldiers. Its debut will be a four-part comic book series, with new issues scheduled to appear online for free in early 2027. Stone Kite says additional media projects will follow.
For readers, the comic series will offer an entry point into the story before those later projects arrive. As the company develops its plans, the four-part format also gives audiences a clear way to follow the initial release: look for each instalment online from the announced launch period.
Who is behind Stone Kite?
Jones co-created the Halo and Destiny franchises. Stohl, who is Stone Kite’s CEO, has worked on several video games and co-founded 7 Studios with Lewis Paterson; Activision later acquired the company. Stohl is also the author of the Beautiful Creatures series.
The founding team includes former media senior vice president Stephen Wacker, president Lewis Peterson, film and television vice president Matt Johnson, and narrative creative director Jeanine Schaefer. Stone Kite is also working with more than 250 creators from across the entertainment industry.
A cross-disciplinary creative team
Among the collaborators named by the studio are director and producer Jay Roach, comic book writer and artist Christian Ward, illustrator Kyle Lambert, author Stephen Graham Jones, and screenwriter Akela Cooper. Bringing contributors from multiple disciplines together is central to the studio’s approach to building its fictional worlds.
Stohl has described the goal as moving beyond traditional divisions between media. In this model, creators from fields such as books, games, comics, film, and television can help shape a shared story world early in development. That approach is intended to make the different formats part of a coordinated creative process, rather than treating later versions simply as adaptations of an original work.
Jones has credited Stohl with encouraging him to write a book and helping develop the material into a larger entertainment project. Their collaboration forms the basis of One Zero One and Stone Kite’s first slate of transmedia storytelling.
