Honoring Two Of The Most Critically Acclaimed Games Ever

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 brings two highly rated entries in the skateboarding series together in a modern package. The collection aims to preserve the fast, score-chasing gameplay fans remember while making select changes for a more consistent experience. New parks, returning skaters, and online crossplay are among the additions players can expect.

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 Builds on the Remakes

The release follows Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2, the 2020 remake that brought the first two games back with updated presentation and familiar gameplay. After a five-year gap, Iron Galaxy Studios is leading development on the next collection in collaboration with publisher Activision.

Iron Galaxy previously supported remaster collections including Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy and Spyro Reignited Trilogy. Design manager Mike Rossi said the quality of 1 + 2 set a high standard for the team. The goal, he explained, was to build on that foundation and deliver a package that does justice to the series.

The games being brought together have strong critical reputations. Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 holds a Metacritic aggregate score of 97 out of 100, while Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 4 has a score of 94 out of 100. Those ratings place them among the most highly regarded entries in the franchise and help explain why preserving their character is central to this release.

How Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 Changes the Format

One of the collection’s most substantial adjustments affects the career mode in Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 4. Its original structure differed from the two-minute sessions used in the earlier games. For this package, the fourth game has been adapted to follow that format, giving both halves a more consistent flow.

Rossi said the team considered what made the fourth game distinct and decided a format closer to the third game’s would work better for a unified collection. That choice may be noticeable to players familiar with the original, so returning fans should be aware that the career structure has changed.

Other adjustments are more limited, including small park changes such as additional rails that create new routes. The package also includes quality-of-life options: players can link combos with skitching, which involves holding onto the back of a vehicle to gain speed, and customize session timers. These features give players more control over how they approach a run.

New Parks and Familiar Skaters

The collection introduces the first all-new Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater parks in more than a decade. Waterpark is designed to feel as though it could have belonged in the original Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 4, while bringing its layout up to modern standards. During the preview, the level was described as fitting naturally alongside the series’ classic parks.

Other locations include Foundry, Suburbia, and Alcatraz. Their objectives encourage the quick exploration and improvisation that define the games. A practical tip for newcomers is to spend a few sessions learning how each park connects: knowing where rails, ramps, and transitions lead makes it easier to build longer combos.

The skater lineup from Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 returns, joined by additional characters. Character creation and customization options are also included, giving players ways to personalize their skater. Familiar names in the roster include Tony Hawk, Bucky Lasek, and Bob Burnquist.

Gameplay, Multiplayer, and Platforms

The series’ core appeal remains its blend of rapid tricks, route planning, and risk-and-reward decisions. Players can improvise a line as they move through a park, linking tricks together to chase higher scores. If the controls feel unfamiliar after a break, a few short sessions can help rebuild timing before attempting longer combos.

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 is scheduled to arrive on July 11 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC. A Switch 2 release is planned for sometime that summer. The package includes local multiplayer and online play for up to eight players, with crossplay across all seven platforms. Create-a-Park creations can also be shared across platforms.

What to Know Before Playing

The collection combines two acclaimed games with new parks, returning skaters, customization, and multiplayer options. Its most notable change is the move to a two-minute session format for Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 4, while smaller adjustments and customizable timers offer additional flexibility. For fans of the originals and newcomers alike, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 is built around the quick, expressive skating that made the series popular.
