Like A Yakuza

Gang of Dragon is the first project from Toshihiro Nagoshi since he left Ryu Ga Gotoku in 2021. Its debut trailer points to familiar territory for the creator: organized crime, close-quarters fighting, and a story set in a specific part of Tokyo. The reveal also puts actor Ma Dong-seok in a prominent role, giving the game a recognizable lead from its first appearance.

Gang of Dragon introduces Shin Ji-seong

Ma Dong-seok (Train to Busan, Eternals) lends his voice and likeness to Shin Ji-seong, a high-ranking member of a Korean crime syndicate. The trailer first shows Ji-seong being stabbed in the stomach by a masked attacker. Wounded but still standing, he confronts the assailant before the reveal moves into a sequence of fights.

That opening quickly establishes the character’s toughness. In the following scene, Ji-seong takes on a group of armed men inside a bar, relying on his bare hands. The contrast between his injury and his forceful response makes physical resilience a defining part of the trailer’s first impression. For viewers, the sequence offers an early sense of the game’s tone and its emphasis on direct, hard-hitting combat.

Crime drama and brawling combat

The trailer places Gang of Dragon in the world of organized crime and focuses on a contained area of Tokyo. This setting gives the story a specific urban backdrop, while Ji-seong’s position within a Korean syndicate suggests that the criminal world will be central to the narrative. The preview establishes those broad elements, but it does not provide enough detail to explain the group’s goals or the conflicts that will drive the full story.

The combat shown is physical and close-range, with Ji-seong fighting multiple opponents without a weapon. This brief footage is useful for understanding the action’s general feel, but it does not confirm the full range of mechanics, available moves, or how combat will work across the game. Those details will need to be assessed from further gameplay footage or official information.

A new project from Toshihiro Nagoshi

Nagoshi’s previous work on the Yakuza and Like a Dragon series makes Gang of Dragon’s focus on crime and brawling feel consistent with his established creative interests. However, this project is being developed outside Ryu Ga Gotoku and Sega, so its identity will depend on more than familiar themes. The debut trailer provides an introduction to the setting and protagonist, but leaves open how the game will distinguish itself.

For now, the clearest takeaways are its Tokyo setting, its organized-crime premise, and Ma Dong-seok’s portrayal of Shin Ji-seong. The trailer is an introduction rather than a complete account of the game, so avoid assuming details about its release, platforms, or final gameplay from this footage alone. Gang of Dragon has an immediately recognizable direction; additional information will show how that foundation develops into a distinct experience.
