In Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, Sam joins Drawbridge, a new organization working to reconnect communities through the Chiral Network. Led by Fragile, the group takes on a mission similar to Bridges’ in the first game: connecting nations in the hope of preventing human extinction. This spoiler-free guide to the Drawbridge members explains who is on Sam’s team and what each character contributes.
The crew includes unusual personalities with distinct roles, from supporting Sam on deliveries to helping steer the organization’s larger mission. Learning the basics about each member can make their conversations and contributions easier to follow as the story unfolds.
Drawbridge Members: Who Joins Sam’s Team?
Drawbridge brings together characters with different backgrounds and abilities. Some are directly involved in Sam’s journey, while others help guide the organization or provide support from the DHV Magellan. The following overview focuses on the previously revealed members without giving away major story details.
Dollman
Dollman is a sentient doll whose movements resemble stop-motion animation. He was once a human spirit medium, but his soul, or Ka, somehow came to inhabit a doll. Of the Drawbridge members, he has one of the closest connections to Sam’s day-to-day travels: he accompanies Sam on deliveries and talks with him about the world and current events.
Dollman can also provide useful context through conversations in Private Rooms. It is worth checking in with him when Sam rests, since his dialogue can change as events progress. In combat, players can select Dollman from the inventory wheel and toss him into enemy camps to survey and tag opponents or distract foes who have become alert.
Tarman
Tarman, whose appearance is modeled on filmmaker George Miller, is the captain and pilot of the DHV Magellan. He navigates the vessel through the Tar Network, the dark substance from which BTs emerge. To connect with the network, he puts his severed, tar-coated arm into a peculiar port, enabling the ship to travel quickly between locations.
Tarman is often accompanied by a winged cat covered in tar. He also appears to appreciate Moby Dick, one of the classic books Sam can read in his Private Room. Pay attention to his role when the story turns to ship travel and the Tar Network.
Rainy
Rainy stands out for her cheerful manner in a world shaped by the aftermath of the Death Stranding. Her optimism exists alongside a difficult past: before meeting the group, she was often ostracized because of her powerful ability. Her name hints at the nature of that ability, although its full significance goes beyond what the name suggests.
Rainy is also seven months pregnant. Questions about her child and the child’s father form part of the mystery surrounding her character. Her unusual ability and personal circumstances make her story one to follow as the team’s relationships develop.
Tomorrow
Portrayed by Elle Fanning, Tomorrow is one of Drawbridge’s most mysterious members. The group finds her inside a cocoon-like shell made of Tar. At first, she is quiet and appears uneasy in her unfamiliar surroundings. When she speaks, her communication resembles that of a toddler.
Although Tomorrow has difficulty expressing herself, she possesses remarkable power connected to her apparent origins. Her introduction raises questions about where she came from and how she fits into Drawbridge’s mission. Keeping those questions in mind helps place her limited early dialogue in context.
Charlie
Charlie is the public face of Drawbridge’s mysterious benefactor. He appears as a mannequin bust and communicates through expressive, anime-inspired facial reactions. His playful design contrasts with his influence: he provides funding, holds a leadership role, and assigns tasks to Sam, while ultimately answering to Fragile.
When players meet Charlie, they can choose to have his voice resemble one of Sam’s former Bridges companions. This option is intended to help ease Sam’s initial distrust. The identity of the person behind the mannequin remains unknown.
What the Drawbridge Team Brings to the Story
Each of the Drawbridge members adds a different perspective to Sam’s effort to reconnect communities. Dollman accompanies him and can help in combat, Tarman pilots the DHV Magellan, Rainy and Tomorrow bring mysteries tied to their abilities and origins, and Charlie handles funding and assignments under Fragile’s leadership.
Death Stranding 2: On the Beach launches on June 26 for PlayStation 5. As the story progresses, conversations and character details offer more context about the team. For a useful overview, keep these Drawbridge members in mind while following Sam’s journey and the organization’s work with the Chiral Network.
