The Series E round was co-led by Baillie Gifford and BAI Capital. NBA Investments, Logitech, Medici Capital Partners and the Raine Group also participated. Nex additionally secured a new credit facility with JPMorgan.

Nex says its subscriber base has grown sevenfold in the past 18 months and is approaching one million active subscribers. The company expects to pass that subscriber milestone by the end of the year. Hardware sales and active subscriptions are separate measures, so they offer different views of the console’s reach and ongoing audience.

For families considering a subscription-based console, it is useful to check which games are included and how the subscription fits into the household’s play habits. Nex describes its library as growing, but the announcement does not give details about subscription pricing or the number of available games.

International expansion and investment priorities

Nex plans to use the new capital to support international expansion, inventory, its supply chain and go-to-market efforts. Germany is planned for later this year, with Japan and Korea targeted for 2027. The company also says it will continue to focus on the United States, the United Kingdom and Ireland.

President Thomas Kang said the UK launch was performing ahead of forecasts. This early performance is one indicator Nex can use as it develops its plans for other markets. Product availability and launch timing can vary by country, so prospective buyers should check local announcements for current details.

Leadership appointments at Nex

Alongside the financing news, Nex appointed Jeff Shouger as chief financial officer. Shouger previously held roles at Niantic and Zynga. Gaming and technology executive Bing Gordon is joining Nex’s board of directors.

CEO and co-founder David Lee said the company aims to make active play a way for families to move, grow, connect and have fun. He described the investment and the two appointments as support for Nex’s long-term ambition to build a lasting business and reach more families around the world.

Baillie Gifford private companies investor Alexander Nicolier said the console makes it easier for families to take part in active play and highlighted the subscription game library as a way to maintain an ongoing relationship with customers. Baillie Gifford co-led the funding round with BAI Capital.

What the Nex Playground funding means

The $150 million raise gives Nex additional resources for stock, supply-chain needs and planned market launches, while the company’s growing subscriber base points to continued interest beyond hardware purchases. The next milestones to watch are the expected subscriber total, the Germany launch and the planned 2027 expansion into Japan and Korea. Nex Playground funding therefore marks both a significant financing event and a new phase in the company’s international growth plans.
