Preserve Your Humanity

The Blood of Dawnwalker opens with a family’s quiet evening before a chain of supernatural events turns the protagonist’s life upside down. In this early gameplay preview, choices shape Coen’s relationships, while a quest timer and growing vampiric hunger add pressure to exploration and survival.

The Blood of Dawnwalker: A Family in Danger

Coen’s story begins on a hill, where he and his family are preparing supper. When his sister Kunka runs into the woods, he follows and discovers that she has become a vampire. She turns on Coen and transforms him as well. He then appears trapped in a room, forced to watch vampires attack the rest of his family.

The horrifying scene is revealed to be a dream. Coen wakes in a daze, and the family is safe for the moment. Even so, vampires remain a threat in everyday life. Coen’s devotion to his relatives is central to the opening: with his mother ill, he has taken on extra responsibilities while his father cares for her.

Timed Quests and Meaningful Choices

Hoping to find medicine for his mother, Coen sets out to meet a woman named Anca. The surrounding area can be explored, but starting a quest activates a timer. This gives ordinary decisions added weight: spending time on one task can affect what Coen is able to do next.

One early option is to help his siblings catch fish and gather food. Their conversation touches on their mother’s illness, the danger of living under vampire rule, and the possibility that Coen may not always be there. These moments build the sense of connection between the family members.

Other activities include deciding what to do about a runaway pig and searching for a missing brother in a cave. The cave also contains an eldritch creature that must be defeated. For players, these side tasks offer a reason to explore, but the ticking quest clock makes it worth considering priorities before taking on additional objectives.

Sword Combat and the Cost of a Mistake

Combat is quick and relies on positioning as well as attacks and blocks. Coen can angle his sword to defend against or strike different areas. Repeating attacks in the same direction is risky because opponents learn the pattern and block it. A grab can break an enemy’s defensive stance and create an opening.

The medicine quest illustrates how choices can have serious consequences. Anca explains how to prepare the treatment, but Coen gets the dose wrong. Later, during a vampiric mass attended by the family, the ruling vampires discover his mother’s condition and kill her in front of the crowd.

Vampiric Hunger and a Race Against Time

Coen’s father responds by leading a revolt, and the townspeople begin mining silver to prepare for a fight. The vampires learn of the plan and kill those working in the mines. Amid the violence, their leader turns Coen into a vampire. With the town in chaos and his family’s fate uncertain, Coen has little choice but to flee.

His transformation brings a dangerous new problem: hunger. Coen is forced to feed on rats and other creatures in the mines, but the craving continues to intensify. If he cannot control it, hunger may take over and make him attack whoever is nearby, including people he cares about. Players should treat this mechanic as a serious survival risk rather than a minor inconvenience.

After learning to use his new vampiric abilities, Coen confronts the vampire who transformed him. He loses the fight and is impaled against a wall, apparently left to die in the rising sun.

Magic, Family, and the 30-Day Deadline

Coen wakes in Anca’s home, no longer able to use his vampiric powers. The village has been destroyed, and Anca reveals that she is a witch. She teaches him magic that can help him defend himself and communicate with the dead. She also tells him that his family is alive, but they have only 30 days left.

That deadline gives Coen a clear purpose: save his family and weaken the vampire empire. The story leaves room for players to decide how he pursues those goals, while the time limit makes each quest and detour feel consequential. A practical approach is to pay close attention to quest objectives and consider how optional activities fit within the available time.

What the Opening Preview Reveals

Roughly three hours of play cover only part of the opening act, leaving substantial content and story developments unexplored. The preview introduces family-focused dialogue, timed objectives, reactive sword combat, supernatural abilities, and the challenge of managing Coen’s hunger.

The Blood of Dawnwalker sets up a story in which survival and personal choices are closely connected. Its opening offers several reasons to weigh every decision: quests use valuable time, mistakes can affect loved ones, and Coen’s transformation creates dangers of its own. The full story may unfold differently depending on how players guide him through those choices.
